Family Christmas

Today is the day that I and my family are celebrating Christmas. I made cinnamon rolls yesterday for breakfast this morning. I also cooked Chicken Paprikash for supper last night and it turned out great. I am going to ordering two cookbooks today one titled Tartine Bread and the other Titled Tartine ehich id a pastry cookbook.

I will be going to Hastings on Tuesday morning to look at several bread cookbooks that they are holding for me and see if they have any pastry and cake baking cookbooks. I will be making bread on Tuesday. It will be the first time I make brioche. In the next few months I will be ordering the bread and pastry cookbooks titled The Professional Pastry Chef: Fundamentals of baking and Pastry and The New French Baler: Perfect Pastries and breads from Your Kitchen.

This coming week i will be looking at the things I will be needing for making pastries and baking awesome breads and cakes. I already do this, but I feel that I can always try new methods. I am very precise when I bake and I measure out the flour and dry ingredients precisely because it is the only way to insure great results.

I know that I need new cook sheets and jelly roll pans, a tart pan, and a spring form pan as well as a pastry bag set with tips. Ii will pick up the pans with my graceries on tuesday and purchase a new bread and pastry cookbook. I will also be making ham and been soup and Mexican corn bread on tuesday.

New Adventures in Baking

I am going on a new culinary adventure. I have ordered two cookbooks dealing with the methods of making french cakes and pastries. I have a lot of spare time on my hands so I have decided to teach myself how to bake and make french pastries. I am already a grand champion cook and baker and am wanting to embark on a new culinary adventure. I cant wait to get the books. It will be fun.

Being a diabetic I cant eat much of the deserts or pastries, but my friends and family will be glad to be my guinea pigs. I have made many things for them and have only had a few flops. They are always willing to eat everything that I make. I wish that I had someone special in my life to cook and bake for on a regular basis. If it is meant to be it will be.

Last week I made a spice cake with maple walnut frosting from scratch, everyone really liked it. It was the first time in years that I had baked anything. Except for a few weeks ago, I baked two dozen homemade Cinnamon rolls for friends and they were also a success. I enjoy making yeast bread and rolls. I made them rich and sweet just as I did when I was in the cooking project in 4-H as a kid. Every 4-H fair I never got below a first place ribbon mostly I got grand champion and champion ribbons and cleaned house on bake sale proceeds.

This will be a fun endeavor for me as I spend a lot of time alone so baking will be fun. I can bake things for my friends and my son and his girl friend. I am really getting excited about this new plan of action. I just have to get the books and some more baking items. I will get them at Wally World next week. I need new jelly roll and cookie sheets and pastry bags and tips. I will keep you abreast of all the happenings in my adventures.

Making Bread

I love making bread and baking from scratch. I think that it is fun and the results tast so good and make the house smell like a bakery. I will be buying several breaad cookbooks so that I will be able to make many differnt types of bread. I feel that it will be fun and the results will be great. I have always been able to bake great bead and cinnamon rolls and pecan sticky rolls as well as challah bread. I will be making brioche for the first time when I get home from my christmas holiday. I am looking forward to it. The results will be great and have great results.

I think that the brioche will make great french toast and bread pudding. In the next few weeks I will try making sout dough bread. It is rather labor intensive because I will have to make a starter which will take several days of sitting before I can make the bread. For me, this will be fun and a new experience but the results will be a great tasting bread.

I will share the end reults with my parents and friends because it will save me a lot of money on bread. The time spent making bread will give me a sense of doing something bensficial for saving money on my limited budget and give me something to do to break up my long days besides the results will be great tasting bread.

ITS Christmas Day

Its Christmas day and it is a quarter to five in the morning. I am watching A Christmas Story on TV. It is kinds of a tradition or at least it used to be. I am making Chicken Paprokash for lunch. I will soon check the chicken is thawed enought to cut ut into thin strips. The cutting boards tbat I have are ver small ehich is really irritating to me. I am at the lake of the ozarks in my own condo and couldnot get out and get a descent sized cutting board. My mom and dad really like the dish and I am pleased. It is a vary easy and quick dish to fix. I like it too and it is out of a diabetic cookbook.

I am still on a quest for great tasting diabetic recipes. I only hope that when I buy a few new diabetis cookbooks that I can find more great tasting recipes. I have ot have food that has the propers spices and herbs and a lot of the diabetic and Weight Watchers recipes are bland. It is rather irritating because I have spent a lot of money on those cookbooks and the recipes are either bland or the spices and main ingredients are so epenisive that it is hard for me to afford them on my extremely limit budget of $200.00 a week unless I asve up for them and that is hard to do. because many of the recipes I would like to try call for pork loin or por loin roast or expensive beef render loin and I simply cant afford them. It is now even hard for me to afford chicken.

But I will make an exception when it comes to cicken. I am going to be making my own bread. I can make my own bread two loaves of bread for the price of whaat one loave in the store. I will be tyring a recipe for white bean chicken chili substiting chicken with chicken flavored tvp to see what it is like and if it makes it tastes all right and I will make chicken enchiladas with it to see what is like. I am hoping that it wotks ok, but I will make an exception and buy chicken and see if I cna find some descent chicken recipes.

We will be celebrating our Chirstmas tomorrow. My sisters and most of their kids will be here tomorrow and they will be going home tomorrow night. My son Alan and his girl friend Olivia will be here later on today. Iam looking forward to seeing the family. It will be a nice Christmas day.

Weight Loss and Diabetes

In May of 2009, I joined Weight Watchers and lost 69 pounds. Five months ago, I became a lifetime member of WW and have maintained it. I have stayed with in 2 lbs of my goal weight and haven't had to pay for the meetings for that time. However, I am on a quest for diabetic ally sound and great tasting food that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I have several WW cook books and have cooked a dozen recipes that are great, but the ingredients cost an arm and a leg.

My parents are my guinea pigs and they have liked the recipes that I have cooked for them. I live on $200.00 a week and spending 2/3 rds of it on food just instant cost effective. I have several diabetic cookbooks and have found only about half a dozen recipes that looked like they had possibilities but only a few of them tasted descent.

I have just ordered several diabetic cookbooks and some vegetarian cookbooks because I have decided that I can used flavored tvp in place of meat and treat myself to meat, fish, or sea food once or twice a week. The problem I have with a lot of the recipes that I would like to try in any of the cookbooks that I have is that the main ingredient and spices cost an arm and a leg. This annoys me because I am a great cook on a limited budget. I havne't given up my quest for great food that I can afford to fix.

The Adventures of Princess Allura (continued)

This is me allura

This is my sister Maggie with the cig.

I am Princess Allura and I am a Rag Doll cat. My life is very interesting. My mom feeds me and my sisters an organic cat food called wellness which is good and when she makes salmon cakes she gives us what is left in the cans and we just love it. I will be four in May. My sister Maggie ( the one my mom calls the wild child) will be three in March, and my baby sister Aleesha will be two in June.

My mom adopted Maggie from the T Russel rietz animal shelter two and a half years ago and she adopted Aleesha from Perrfect Paws a no kill cat sanctuary a year ago. Maggie was six months old when my mom adopted her and Aleesha was 8 months 0ld when my mom adopted her.

Maggie keeps us on our toes she runs through the house like a banchee and jumps on furniture and climbs up it side ways. She jumps on my mom's shoulders and back when my mom bends over. Sge digs her claws in her back and my mom yells. Maggie also likes high places lie the top of the TV (a tall big screen), the curio cabinet, the kitchen cabinets, and the refrigerator.

My mom invited a friend of hers over on night to hang out and to eat dinner. My mom's friend was and still is a smoker. she went out on the deck which is high up off the ground and enclosed. Maggie followed her out on the deck because she likes to go out side when it is cool outside. Her friend didn't have much time to light up and get one hit off the cig before dinner was done. she put out the cig and left it laying on the table. Maggie was left out on the deck and the screen door was closed and shortly after they started eating dinner my mom looked back and Maggie had her front legs on the screen and the cig was clenched in between her teeth. Here is what she looked like. The picture is above at the top of this picture followed by my picture.
